I always thought paying extra for a fancy box was dumb, then the tin of mints at a Spokane gas station got me
Three years ago I stood in line at a truck stop outside Spokane and almost put back a $9 tin of peppermints because who pays that for candy. What got me was the tin itself, a little oval thing with a hinged lid and flowers pressed into the metal, and I told myself I would just toss the mints. I still have the tin on my desk with paper clips in it, and last week I caught myself in the checkout line at a grocery store in Boise holding a $14 bar of soap because the wrapper had a tiny bear stamped on it. I mean, the soap smells fine, but I mostly want the paper. Where do you all draw the line between a cool package and a shelf full of boxes you never open?
