A bookbinder in Tucson showed me how she repairs a 90 year old spine and I think about it constantly
I met her at a small shop on 4th Ave about 8 months ago. She was fixing a family bible from 1932, sewing the pages back with linen thread and a curved needle. She said "anyone can glue a book, but the sewing is where the book lives or dies." I still think about how much skill is hiding in that tiny shop. Does anyone else know a trade like this that almost nobody notices?
