Spent 2 hours fighting a warped text block before my teacher in Portland said just grain the board first

I was gluing the spine right onto the flat board and wondering why every book I made in my garage kept curling at the edges after a day or two, then she picked it up, ran her thumb across the grain, and told me the board expands one way and not the other, so now I line up the grain with the spine and the curl is gone, has anyone else had a teacher catch something that obvious?
