A farrier in Kentucky told me a horse's hoof grows about 3/8 of an inch every month and I can't stop thinking about it
Was reading through an old farrier supply catalog from 1998 I picked up at a flea market in Lexington and a sidebar mentioned that number. It blew my mind because it means every 6 weeks or so a horse is basically walking on a whole new foot, which is why shoeing cycles are what they are. Any of you who forge hoof nippers or shoe stock ever think about that when you're working?
