The "too clean" thing is so real. I had a guy tell me my stuff sounded like it was made in a lab, and I sat with that for like a week before I got what he meant. Everything was lined up perfect, no room noise, no hiss, nothing. It sounded dead. So I started tracking stuff live off the floor and just keeping whatever happened. A chair creak, a bad take where I laughed halfway through, all of it. The weird part is people started saying it felt warmer, and I'm sitting there thinking, it's the same songs, I just stopped fixing them. That one comment changed how I record more than any gear I ever bought.
