Paid $35 for a used paperback of a 900 page family saga and it took me 6 months to get hooked
I grabbed a beat-up copy of a giant family saga at a library sale in Sacramento for $35 because a stranger swore the first 300 pages were slow but worth it, and I almost quit three times before it finally grabbed me around page 340 at the dinner table scene. I stuck with it past the slow start because I paid real money, and by the end I was reading past midnight and mad I had nobody to argue with about the ending. What long book did you pay for that made you wait a long time before it finally got good?
