My dishwasher saga lasted 6 weeks over a $4 part

Back in March my dishwasher stopped draining, so I called a repair guy who charged me $180 to say the pump was dead. I ordered a new pump for $95, installed it over a weekend, and it still didn't drain. Turned out the real issue was a clogged air gap hose, which I replaced with a $4 part from a hardware store in Tacoma. That whole time I could have just unscrewed the hose and blown through it. Has anyone else paid for a diagnosis that missed the obvious cheap fix?
