Kept dropping long serials 40 pages in until a guy on the bus called out my reading habit
I used to bail on every slow story around page 40. Just figured they were boring. Last month I was on the 7 train reading a 600 page family saga and getting restless again, and the guy next to me asked why I kept flipping ahead. I said I wanted to know what happens. He said "then you're reading it as a summary, not a story." That got under my skin. So I restarted the book that night and made one rule: no skipping, no flipping ahead, just read in order even when it drags. After about 200 pages something clicked and the payoff hit way harder than any fast book I've read this year. Now I'm wondering how many slow burns I gave up on way too early. What's the book that finally got you to slow down and stop rushing to the end?
