I measured my kitchen counter clutter every Sunday for 2 months, and the number that changed it all was 14
Back in April I started counting every single thing sitting on my kitchen counters. Not deep cleaning, just counting. First Sunday I hit 41 items. Spatulas, mail, three bottles of hot sauce, a bag of coffee, random chargers. I did nothing different for two weeks and it stayed around 38 to 42. Then I tried one dumb rule: nothing lives on the counter unless I touched it that day. I put a small cardboard box by the fridge for stuff I was unsure about, and whatever stayed in that box for 7 days went in the trash or a drawer. After 4 weeks my count dropped to 19. After 8 weeks it was sitting at 14 and holding steady. The weird part is I never felt like I was cleaning, I was just counting. My wife thinks I'm nuts but she stopped putting her keys on the counter too. Has anyone else tried a hard number like this instead of just "decluttering" whenever you feel like it?
