I finally picked the clippers over scissors for a buzz cut
So this guy comes in yesterday and asks for a fade but says he's nervous about clippers. He wanted me to use scissors only. I had to choose between what he wanted and what I knew would actually look good. I went with the clippers and showed him on a test patch how clean it would come out. He loved it after I finished but man my hands were shaking the whole time thinking he'd hate it. Has anyone else had a customer push back on a tool choice then ended up happy?

Three years back this woman came in dead set on me using scissors for a full head trim. I explained clippers would give her a cleaner line and save time but she was firm. I did a tiny test patch on the back of her neck with the clippers and she said okay go ahead. She ended up loving it and came back every month for two years. Your mileage may vary but sometimes people just need to see it first before they trust the tool. I think that visual proof is stronger than any explanation.

...and that's exactly what @noahward was saying too, people just need to see it to believe it. I read something awhile back about how visual proof beats words every single time in situations like this, it's like our brains are wired to trust what we see over what we hear.
