A 25 year barber in Boise told me to quit using a straight razor on kids, and I actually listened
I've been cutting hair 6 years and always figured the straight razor lineup was just part of the job for kids. Last Thursday an older barber at a shop on State Street in Boise watched me do a taper on a 5 year old and pulled me aside after. He said he did 25 years of this and the scared flinch from a cold blade causes more uneven lines than it's worth, plus parents tense up when they see steel near a kid's ear. He uses clippers with a .5 guard and a foil shaver for the neck and gets the same clean look in half the time. I tried it on three kids Saturday and none of them cried, which never happens. So now I'm wondering what else I'm doing out of habit that's actually just making my life harder, any other old school tips like this?
