Had to choose between butter and shortening for my grandma's sugar cookie recipe

I went with butter because I figured better flavor mattered more, but they spread way too thin and came out like crispy discs instead of soft cookies. Has anyone else tried swapping half and half or is that just a myth?

Feels like everything in life has that same tradeoff between something being good but not working the way you need it to.

That reminds me of trying to find a good camping hammock online. Every single one had great reviews about comfort but then someone would mention the straps broke after three trips. Ended up just buying a cheap one and tying it between two trees with rope, worked fine for a while but the mosquitoes had a field day with me. Maybe some tradeoffs are just built into the universe and we have to pick which ones we can live with.
