Fried my garage door opener trying to add a smart switch, wife still mad about the $85
Back in June I decided my old garage door opener needed to be smart, so I cracked it open and tried to wire in a cheap wifi relay I got for $12 off a sketchy site. I crossed the ground and the hot on the wall control terminals and there was a little pop and a puff of smoke out of the board, killed the whole unit. We were stuck parking in the driveway for four days until the new opener showed up, and the wife brought it up at dinner twice. Any of you ever mess with low voltage stuff and have it bite you anyway, or is it just me that forgets to pull the breaker first?
