Rant: That 1999 article claiming Linux would replace Windows by 2005 is still making me laugh.

I remember finding that old PC Magazine prediction in a box of magazines at my uncle's house last summer, and it's wild how they thought open-source community chaos could ever beat Microsoft's corporate machine back then, has anyone else dug up a hilariously bad OS prediction?

Three million active Linux users by 2004 was supposed to be the tipping point, but that number barely dented Windows' 90% market share. The real joke is how Linux actually did take over servers, embedded systems, and Android which now runs billions of phones. Nobody talks about PC Magazine being wrong about that, because they missed the bigger picture of where open source would win. Maybe the prediction was off by a decade or two, but calling it bad now sounds like you're ignoring how Linux runs most of the internet.
