Warning: tried drawing my cat from memory at 1am, it took 3 hours and I still see two sides of this
So last Friday I sat down around 1am with a cheap sketchbook and a dull pencil to draw my cat Doug from memory, thinking it would take maybe 20 minutes. Three hours later I had gone through 2 erasers and Doug looked less like a cat and more like a melted boot with whiskers. Here is my problem, and I keep flip flopping on it. One side of me says the whole point of this community is the mess, so I should have just posted the melted boot and gone to bed at 1:20. The other side says the mess is only funny if it is fast, and once I started fixing the ears and redoing the tail 14 times, it stopped being bad art and became sad art. My roommate walked past at 3am, looked at the page, and said 'that is a foot' and honestly he had a point. I think the magic happens in the first sleepy 10 minutes, before your brain wakes up and starts caring. Where do you all draw the line, do you post the very first sleepy version or the version you messed with until it got worse?
