Warning: pitot heat on N12345 quit during my ramp check at KPDX and I almost signed it off
Last Thursday I was doing a preflight on a King Air at KPDX and the pitot heat breaker popped the second I flipped it on, so I reset it and it popped again right away. I grabbed my meter and found the element reading open, which meant no heat on the left side and the plane was grounded until we swapped it. I told the pilot we werent going anywhere and he was not happy, but no way I was signing that off in cold weather. Took me about 2 hours to pull the mast and get a new element in, and the test came back good. How do you guys handle a pilot who pushes back when you ground the plane on the spot?
