Visited a repair shop in Phoenix last week where the old bench still had a 2020 diagnostic card in the reader
Walked into this shop off of 27th Ave, just checking out their setup since I heard they do a lot of biz jet work. There was this beat up test bench against the back wall, CRT monitor and all. The card slot still had a datacard from a 2020 Collins Pro Line 4 diagnostic still sitting in there. Nobody had touched it in years. Made me wonder how many shops are still running ancient gear because the newer test sets cost like $15k. Anyone else seen shops where the test equipment is older than the techs using it?

Haven't you noticed this same thing everywhere though? Walk into any auto shop or mechanic's garage and you'll see a Snap-On tool box from the 90s sitting next to a laptop running software from 2012. It's like people fix expensive stuff with whatever was already in the building, and nobody wants to spend the money to update until the old thing literally catches fire or something. That datacard just sitting there feels like a little time capsule, kind of like how I still see old refrigerant gauges that read R-12 on them even though that stuff got phased out like 20 years ago.
