Rant: chasing a flap disagree light for 11 hours on a CRJ, and half of you will say I did it wrong
Last Tuesday, second flight of the day, we get a flap disagree message on the EICAS during retraction. Plane goes AOG at a gate in Spokane. I figure it's a prox sensor, easy. Pull the book, do the rigging check, sensor ohms out fine. Wiggle test does nothing. Swap the FSEU anyway because we have one on the shelf. Light comes back.
Here is where the two camps split. Three of us spent the whole shift with the multimeter tracing the harness run through the wheel well. Found a chafed wire behind a clamp you can barely reach, right where the loom rubs the structure. 11 hours total. The other camp says we should have just done a full rig from scratch first instead of trusting the last shop's work, and we got lucky even finding it.
So which is it? Do you chase the wire first or do you re-rig first? I've heard both from guys with way more time than me and nobody agrees.
