Pro tip: I switched from crimping to soldering my cannon plugs and the pin pushback stopped
Last week I was chasing an intermittent on a Garmin G1000 install in a 182 out of Addison, TX, and kept getting pin pushback on half the connector. I had been crimping with the cheap ratchet tool for years, thinking soldering was too slow and risky for aviation work. Then a guy named Dale at the hangar let me try his solder sleeves on the same harness, and every pin seated clean on the first try with zero pushback. I redid the whole connector that way and it passed continuity on all 32 pins without a single rework. Now I'm wondering if I was making this harder on myself the whole time, has anyone else made the switch?
