Fixed a pitot static leak with a rubber band trick in Tulsa

Last month I was chasing a pesky pitot static leak on a Cessna 172 that had two mechanics stumped for days. I grabbed a thick rubber band from the hangar, wrapped it around the pitot tube base during a static test, and the leak stopped instantly, which pointed right at the O-ring seal. Has anyone else used a quick hack like this to isolate a leak, or am I just getting lucky?
