A dispatcher in Ohio told me to stop booking carriers off the lowest quote, and I'm starting to think he's got a point
I've shipped maybe 14 cars in the past year and always picked the cheapest bid on the board. Last month a dispatcher out of Columbus asked me flat out if I'd ever read a carrier's DOT number before agreeing, and I had to admit I hadn't. He said the low quote usually means a guy with one truck and no backup plan, so if he breaks down in Kansas your car sits. Now I'm wondering if I've just been lucky this entire time. What do you folks actually check before you hand a car over to a carrier?
