My uncle told me to stop using dish soap on my wheels, and I finally tried it his way

My uncle has been detailing cars out of his garage in Fresno for 20 years and he kept telling me dish soap strips the wax right off my paint. I ignored him for months since it was cheap and worked fast, but after my clear coat started looking dull and hazy I switched to a real car soap. Anyone else learn this the hard way or am I the only one who wrecked their finish being cheap?
