That trick of riding in 2nd gear through deep mud saved me on Sunday
Got stuck twice before I remembered an old forum post about keeping the RPMs high in a lower gear instead of trying to power through in 4th. Does anyone else use this or do you have a better approach for soupy conditions?

Hard agree on this one. I used to be dead set on just flooring it in 3rd or 4th thinking more speed equals more momentum through the mud. Man was I wrong a few times. A buddy finally talked me into trying 2nd gear with higher RPMs and it totally changed how I handle those nasty sections. The tire speed helps clear the treads instead of just bogging down. Your engine's torque curve is way happier in that lower gear too. It's a night and day difference once you get used to the noise and feel of it.

Learned that same lesson the hard way stuck in a pit in my buddy's field. Kept revving it in 3rd just digging myself a deeper hole until he yelled at me to drop it down. Soon as I hit 2nd and kept the RPMs up the tires finally cleaned out and I crawled right out like nothing. Still catches me off guard sometimes how loud it gets but man does the truck just feel more planted and in control through the slop.
