My neighbor in Marietta swore I didn't need to clean my gutters until spring, and I've got 3 grand in water damage to prove him wrong
Back in October my neighbor Dale, who has lived in his house off Roswell Road for 30 years, told me to quit wasting my Saturdays on the ladder because the rain just washes everything out anyway. I listened to him and skipped the fall cleaning, even though we had a huge pecan tree dropping junk all over the roof of my 1978 ranch. Fast forward to the storms two weeks ago and water was pouring down my back wall, right into the sheetrock in my laundry room. Got a roofer out who showed me a clogged downspout that had basically turned into a peat bog, and now I'm staring at a $3,200 repair quote plus a nasty mold spot. Part of me thinks Dale just got lucky for decades and part of me thinks he's messing with me because he knew I'd freak out. So who's right here, is fall gutter cleaning really needed in Atlanta or can you get away with once a year?
