Took a shot of the Orion Nebula a year apart from my backyard in Omaha, the difference stunned me

First attempt was with a stock DSLR on a tripod, just a fuzzy purple smudge with maybe 20 stars visible. Got a cheap tracking mount and stacked 40 shots this January, and suddenly I could see the trapezium and real dust lanes. Has anyone else gone back and re-shot an old target just to see how far they've come?
