Nearly burned down my kitchen with a bag of microwave popcorn
Last Tuesday I was at the Harris Teeter on Columbia Pike and grabbed their store brand popcorn, the kind with the fake butter. I hit the popcorn button on my 15 year old microwave and walked to the living room, came back 3 minutes later to smoke pouring out and the bag on fire inside. I unplugged the thing and tossed the bag in the sink, but my whole apartment smelled like burnt oil for 2 days. The microwave still works but I refuse to use it for anything except reheating coffee now. Anyone else had a near miss with those bags, or should I just switch to stove top popping for good?
