My eight-year-old nephew asked me if archaeologists ever find dinosaur bones, and I had to explain the whole 'that's paleontology' thing.

Ever wonder why we even have two different fields for old bones? It's not just about age. Archaeologists dig up stuff people made, which tells a story about culture. Paleontologists dig up natural stuff like dinosaur bones, which tells a story about biology. The real split is about studying human history versus studying the whole history of life. That's a pretty big difference in the questions they're trying to answer.
