Hot take: The new laser scanning at the Pompeii dig site is ruining the vibe

I was working on the House of the Faun last month and they brought in this million dollar lidar rig. Now we're just staring at screens all day instead of actually touching the walls. Has anyone else's site gone full digital like this?

Remember trying to date that old pottery shard in undergrad. The lab's fancy imaging showed nothing, but holding it in the sun you could see the faintest scoring from a reed brush. Sometimes your own eyes beat the machine.
