Lost $140 on a "universal" lid switch kit that fit zero of my jobs
Bought a 12-pack of universal lid switch kits from a supply house in Fort Worth back in March because the counter guy swore they fit Whirlpool, Kenmore, and Roper. Ended up forcing one onto a Kenmore 110 and it cracked the plastic housing two days later, so I ate the callback and a new switch out of my own pocket. That was $140 gone between the kit, the gas, and the freebie repair. Anyone got a brand they actually trust for these, or do you just keep a drawer of factory pulls?
A buddy of mine ran into the same thing with those so-called universal kits last year. He grabbed a handful for a couple of Whirlpool and Roper jobs and every one of them sat wrong in the housing, so the lid never clicked right. He ended up pulling factory switches off dead machines he keeps out back instead. Now he just saves every good switch from scrapped units and labels them by brand. Says it beats rolling the dice on a kit that claims to fit everything.
