I finally asked a retired tech why he always checked the drain pump filter first on every washer call

He said 'because 80% of the time, that's the whole problem, and you look like a hero for a 5 minute fix.' Has anyone else found one simple check that solves most of your calls for a specific appliance?

That's the truth for fridge ice makers too. Always the water line filter first.

Yeah, my neighbor learned that the hard way. He kept getting that weird cloudy ice and just kept replacing the fridge filter. Turns out the line from his old house had a ton of sediment built up. Once he swapped that inline filter before the fridge, it was like night and day. The fridge filter can only do so much if the water coming into it is already messed up. It's a simple fix that gets overlooked all the time.
