Am I the only one who changed how they test dryer thermostats after a guy at a parts counter in Dayton told me to stop?
I used to just ohm out dryer thermostats cold and call it good, until a counter guy in Dayton asked if I was testing them hot and said "a cold test only tells you half the story" after I brought back a third one in a month. Now I run the dryer for 10 minutes and check the thermostat while it's still warm, which has caught 2 bad ones I would have missed. How are you guys testing these, or am I the last one doing it cold?

Wait, aren't dryer thermostats supposed to be tested cold anyway? Most of them are bimetal switches that only open or close at a set temp, so ohming them at room temp should tell you if they're stuck. Running the dryer hot is good for checking the whole cycle, but I don't think the thermostat itself needs to be warm to test right.
