Warning: picking between keeping my Compaq Armada or a ThinkPad 600 drained a full Saturday
So I had two old laptops on the bench and only room for one, the Armada running Win98 with a weird hinge squeal, or the ThinkPad 600 with the keyboard I actually liked. I went with the ThinkPad because everyone yaps about those keyboards, but the screen backlight started flickering after maybe 2 hours of use. Now I'm stuck trying to source a new inverter from some parts guy in Tucson who wants $40 plus shipping, and the Armada is already in a box in the closet. Should I just swap back to the Compaq and stop chasing the ThinkPad dream, or is the flicker fixable without tearing the whole lid apart?
