My grandpa's 1978 cassette player still eats batteries, but a guy at a garage sale showed me the fix
I was at a garage sale in Beaverton two weeks ago and found a Realistic cassette player for $5. The seller said it still worked but went through 4 AA batteries in a day. I almost walked away until an older guy standing nearby told me to check the belt. Sure enough, the old rubber belt had stretched and was dragging, so I ordered a $3 replacement online. Now it runs for weeks on one set of batteries. Has anyone else fixed one of these old players, or do you just toss them when the belt goes?
