Film spool jammed in a rental Pentax, saved it with a matchbook

Was shooting a buddy's wedding in Portland last month and the take-up spool slipped mid-roll, film just sat there loose. I had a matchbook in my pocket from a bar the night before, used the striker to shim the spool and got the last 12 frames out fine. Anybody else got a field fix for stuck film they swear by?
