Watched a guy at the Rose Bowl flea market sharpen a knife with the bottom of a coffee mug and I ditched my electric sharpener
I was at the Pasadena flea market two Sundays ago and this older guy selling kitchen knives grabbed a plain ceramic mug off his table and flipped it over. He ran the blade across the unglazed ring on the bottom about six or seven times per side, then sliced a sheet of printer paper like it was nothing. I tried it on my own beat up chef knife when I got home and it came back to life in under two minutes. My $40 electric sharpener has been sitting in a drawer since. Has anyone else tried the mug thing, or is there a better trick for keeping an edge without pulling out a whole sharpening setup?
