Wasted $95 on a wind-up flashlight that died after 2 weeks, and I want to warn everyone
Bought one of those hand crank emergency flashlights at a flea market in Tulsa two weeks ago for $95, thinking it would be perfect for my no-battery household. The guy said it would last forever and never need batteries. First day it worked fine, cranked for about a minute and got maybe 10 minutes of light. By day five the crank felt loose and wobbly. Day ten it started making a grinding noise like rocks in a blender. Day fourteen the handle snapped clean off while I was cranking it during a blackout. I opened it up and the gears were plastic, not metal like the box claimed. Total loss, almost a hundred bucks gone, and I was sitting in the dark anyway. Has anyone found a hand crank light that actually holds up, or should I just go back to oil lamps?
