TIL my grandpa's trick for sharpening scissors with aluminum foil actually works

My grandpa told me to fold a sheet of aluminum foil 8 times and just cut through it with dull scissors. I thought he was messing with me like when he said WD-40 fixes everything. Tried it last week on my kitchen shears in Tulsa and they cut through cardboard like butter now. Has anyone else actually tested this or was my grandpa just lucky?
