Spent $85 on a fancy cast iron skillet and my $19 hardware store one cooks the same
I got talked into a pricey skillet at a cooking shop in Spokane about 8 months ago, and I've been kicking myself since. The thing came pre-seasoned and pretty, but after a few months of eggs and cornbread it cooks no better than the plain one I grabbed for cheap at the hardware store down the road. Turns out cast iron is cast iron, and the extra money bought me a smoother finish and a brand name, not a better breakfast. I'm not saying the cheap ones win every time, but for basic cooking I sure can't tell the difference. Anyone else bought the fancy version of a plain tool and regretted it?
