Got caught in a downpour without a phone map and had to use an actual paper map
I was hiking up near Mount Tamalpais a few weeks ago and halfway through the trail, the sky just opened up. My phone died because the rain got into my pocket and shorted it out. I was standing there soaked, no idea which fork to take. Then I remembered I had an old folded trail map stuffed in my backpack from like three years ago. Thank god it was still readable, even with some ink smudged. I ended up following the marked trail and found a ranger station after about 45 minutes. Made me realize how much I rely on that little screen when a piece of paper would do. Anyone else keep a backup map stashed somewhere just in case?

Wait, Mount Tam doesn't have cell service up there anyway so the phone would be useless.

Wait, you're serious about that? @thompson.christopher I didn't even think about the service thing, that's wild.
