Rant: Took me three weekends to wire up a single ceiling fan in my living room

I swear I thought it would be a quick afternoon job. Pull the old fixture, match the wires, boom done. But no. The junction box in my 1970s Albuquerque house was just a hole in the drywall with no brace. Spent a whole Saturday driving to three hardware stores trying to find a proper old-work box that fit the stud spacing. Then the fan kit had a bad capacitor right out of the box. Had to order a replacement and wait. All said and done it took like 18 hours over three Saturdays. Has anyone else run into a simple job that just kept snowballing?
