That cheap wireless alarm panel I bought off Amazon actually held up for 6 months straight

Honestly I was ready to hate it. I grabbed a no-name wireless panel for like $80 to throw in my own garage after the old wired one died. Figured it would drop signal or just stop working after a month. But it's been solid through summer heat and a few storms. No false alarms, battery still fine. Makes me rethink if I'm overpaying for the name brand stuff for basic jobs. Anyone else had a budget panel surprise them?

Read a post on a home security forum where a guy tested 4 different cheap panels from Amazon by leaving them in a bucket of ice water for 2 hours. Three of them died instantly, but one of those no-name brands just kept going. That same brand is the one I've got in my rental property now, been running over a year without a hiccup. Makes you wonder how much of the markup on the big names is just paying for the logo.

I was totally in the "you get what you pay for" camp until a buddy did a similar test with floodlights and the cheap one outlasted the expensive one by months. It's wild how some random brand from Shenzhen can slap together something that holds up better than a company with a hundred years of reputation. Makes me wonder if the big names are just coasting on their name at this point.
