I think we lean too hard on cellular backup

Had a chat with an older installer named Hank last week at a supply house in Tulsa. He was saying how he still uses landline paths on half his jobs because they're way more reliable than the cellular modules when power goes out for days. Made me realize I've been pushing these $400 cellular units on customers without really thinking about the weak spots in the signal when towers get slammed. Any of you guys still running copper phone lines on your installs or am I just being old school?

Hank's not wrong about landlines being solid in a blackout, but most of those old copper lines are getting phased out by the phone companies themselves... I've had three customers this year get told their POTS line is being discontinued and they gotta switch to VoIP or fiber.

My uncle had the same thing happen last year out in the county. He was stubborn about keeping his old rotary phone but the company just cut him off anyway. Now he's got a fiber line running through a ditch in his front yard.
