Four hours is a long time for a loose clamp, I'll give you that. But let's be real, a fuel leak isn't the end of the world either. You probably spent half that time walking around for the right socket or just staring at it. I've chased stuff for that long only to find it was something dumb I did the day before. Unless it was dripping on something hot, it wasn't going to burn your shop down. Your mileage may vary but I'd call it a learning experience and move on.
