Pro tip: an old lead told me to stop signing off squawks I did not personally see fixed, and I still hear him
I was griping to a guy who retired off the line in Wichita after 30 years about a signoff that came back to bite me during a morning shift, and he just said, "your name is on that logbook forever." Now I walk out to the ramp and put eyes on the panel before I put ink on anything, even on a 15 minute turn. How do you all handle it when a lead pressures you to sign for work you did not do?
I read a thing from an old NTSB guy who said the paper trail is the only thing that survives a crash, nobody remembers who told who what on the ramp. That stuck with me. If a lead pushes me I just tell him I'll sign once I lay eyes on it, and if that's a problem he can sign it himself.
