Overheard a pilot at the FBO in Boise say 'mechanics just turn wrenches'. Been stewing on that for a week.

Ever have someone talk down about your job like that? I had a customer say something similar about retail workers once, just "shelf stockers." I waited until they needed real help finding something tricky, then showed them how much we actually know. They shut up pretty fast after that. Maybe that pilot needs his plane to have a weird problem only a good mechanic can figure out.

Wow, that pilot needs to meet the mechanic who saved his tail last week.

Yeah for real though, @tyler368 nailed it. Bet that pilot would be singing a different tune if his engine started humming weird at 30,000 feet and some random "parts swapper" was the only one who could figure out the fix. Funny how people forget the person who keeps them alive when things get quiet. Idk, maybe it's just me but I feel like everyone loves to talk down blue collar work until something breaks. Then suddenly they want the "shelf stocker" to know exactly where that weird gasket is hiding.
