Found a 3 cent lockwire trick in an old AC 43.13 copy that our shop never taught me
I was flipping through a beat up copy of AC 43.13-1B in the break room at our hangar in Wichita and found the section on safety wire twisting that says the pigtail should be 4 to 6 twists per inch, which nobody ever showed me as an apprentice. Turns out I had been over twisting for years and snapping tails on small hardware without knowing why. My lead looked at it and just shrugged, said that's how he was taught too. So now I am wondering how many other basic habits I picked up wrong, what is one thing you learned from the books that your shop did completely different?
