Am I the only one who fixed a stubborn fuel drain valve with a piece of safety wire and a rag?
Had a Cessna 172 in for a leaky quick drain that would not seat no matter how much I cleaned it, and I was about to order a new one. An old guy at the hangar in Spokane grabbed a length of .032 safety wire, bent a tiny hook, and fished a bit of shop rag through the valve with it to scrub the seat clean from the inside. Took him about 3 minutes and the thing sealed on the first try, no parts needed. I felt pretty dumb standing there with my parts catalog open, honestly. Anybody else got a no-cost trick like that they keep in their back pocket?
