PSA: The county fair demo changed my whole air fryer approach

I watched a lady at the Erie County Fair last summer cook chicken wings in an air fryer and she NEVER preheated it. I've always preheated for 3-4 minutes. She said preheating dries out the outside before the inside cooks. We argued for a bit. Has anyone else tested this or am I just stuck in my old ways?

Wait, did she explain what temp she was running the wings at? Honestly I've been preheating my air fryer for years too and never thought twice about it until I saw a similar demo at our local state fair. Tbh I tried her method with some frozen chicken tenders and the outsides were way softer but the insides were still fully cooked. Ngl now I'm wondering if preheating is just a waste of electricity or if it actually matters for certain foods like thick pork chops or something. But did she mention anything about adjusting the cooking time for the no preheat method?
