Clicked a $19 'Firefighter Sleep System' ad at 3 am after a 24 hour shift and it actually worked
I was scrolling on my phone in bed around 3 am after a rough 24 hour shift in Cleveland and an ad popped up for some $19 sleep mask with built in headphones. Normally I scroll right past stuff like that but it had a photo of a guy in turnout gear passed out on a couch so I clicked it out of pure exhaustion. The mask showed up in 4 days and I figured it would be cheap junk but I have used it every night for the past 3 weeks. The headphones are flat enough that I can sleep on my side and the battery lasts about 8 hours which covers most of my sleep. My question is does anyone here have a better option for blocking out noise on shift, because the station is loud and I am tired of waking up every time a truck rolls out. Looking for something under $50 that actually stays on your face all night.
How are you even functioning after three weeks of that schedule? A 24 hour shift would wreck me, and then trying to sleep with trucks rolling out has to be brutal. When I worked nights the thing that saved me was a cheap box fan for the noise plus ear plugs, but those always fell out by hour two so I get the struggle. Have you tried doubling up, like foam plugs under the mask? That flat headphone setup sounds pretty smart since most of the bulky ones make side sleeping impossible. Hope you catch some real sleep soon, you have earned it.
