Spilled red wine on a white carpet at my sister's place last Saturday

I was at a dinner party in Brooklyn and knocked over a glass of Malbec right onto this beige wool rug. In trying to blot it up with paper towels, I accidentally sort of smeared it into this weird wavy pattern that actually looks kind of cool from across the room. Has anyone else ever messed up a cleaning attempt and ended up with something that looks better than before?
